 Civis Seed Kft. was founded by Dutch and Hungarian private persons in December 1991.
On foundation the main activity of the company was seed production and trading in Hungary. In 1994 Hungarian private persons bought out the Dutch ownership share. Since then the company has been producing several hundred varieties of 17 species (peas, beans, maize, sunflower, wheat, vegetables and industrial bird-seed) on nearly 2000 hectares.
Production takes place on a contractual basis, and it is supported by our consulting network. We have been processing seeds in our own seed plant since 1995.
We keep on developing our plant from our own resources, and it is equipped with the latest machinery at present. The daily capacity in cleaning is 50 tons of seeds.
Since 1998 we have specialised in pea seed production. We grow pea seeds on nearly 1500 hectares on the average. We cover the complete sorting process, produce pea seeds for retail trade, green pea seeds for the canning and freezing industry and pea seeds used as fodder crop and bird seeds. We can supply nearly 30 varieties of seeds grown by 40 producers in 5 counties, including primary producers, private persons, farmers´ co-operatives and large companies. Harvest is processed in our own plant and packed on demand in 25 kg, 40 kg, 50 kg and 1000 kg (Big bag) bags. The seeds are treated and packed on pallets. We can clean everything from poppy seeds to beans.
Produced, cleaned and packed pea seeds are delivered inland and all over the world. We supply all the Hungarian companies with seeds for consumer packaging, such as MG Falker GBBr Bt., Kertimag Zrt., Hermes and Garafarm. Nearly half of our products are sold abroad. We deliver to Italy, The Netherlands, Germany, Pakistan, Serbia, the United Kingdom, Tunisia, Algeria, the Czech Republic, Morocco and France.
Due to the increased trading activity Civis Seed Kft. (Ltd.) founded Civis Vetőmag Kereskedelmi Kft. (Ltd.) in 2001 to deal with production, cleaning and trading. We process nearly 2000-3000 tons of seeds in the main season in our plant in Debrecen. Our storage capacity is 2500 tons, which is 50% of all the seeds needed for the whole Hungarian production area. We produce foreign and Hungarian species and also make an effort to produce our own varieties. To achieve this we have been producing new species, and sustain old ones on our experimental area of 3 hectares with Agrona Bt.
Pulse plants like peas and beans suit the Hungarian crop rotation completely as they tolerate moisture and temperature conditions well.
